Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions for your Here be Dragons safari.
Everything you need to know to plan and enjoy an experience of a lifetime.

Can I book a lodge without the full itinerary?

Yes — you can book any lodge on a per-night basis without committing to the full 11-day itinerary.

How far in advance should I book my Botswana safari?

We recommend booking 6–12 months ahead, especially for peak season (June–October), when Botswana lodges fill up quickly.

Do you require a deposit, and is it refundable?

Yes — a 20–30% deposit is required within 7 days of confirmation. The balance is due 30–60 days before arrival. Refunds depend on how far in advance you cancel. Full terms are shared before booking.

What’s included in the nightly rate?

Accommodation, all meals, teas/coffees, snacks, selected local drinks, two fully guided safari activities per day, laundry, park fees, and taxes.

Are transfers included in the nightly rate?

No — accommodation only.
We arrange flights to all lodges, each with an airstrip nearby.

Grassland Lodge: Flights or road transfers from Maun available (road ~US $450 round trip).

Self-drive: Only for highly experienced 4x4 drivers. It is guest-organised; we don’t arrange or encourage self-drive.

What safari activities are included?

Two fully guided activities per day — morning and afternoon — tailored to maximise wildlife sightings and guest experience.
A three-night stay (≈2½ days) typically offers around five activities.

Grassland Lodge: Rhino tracking, Bushmen cultural walks, horseback safaris, predator conservation experiences, and game drives.

Saguni Lodge: Mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) trips, exceptional year-round river access, and game drives through varied habitats.

Savuti Lodge: Game drives across open plains and riverine woodland, with frequent sightings of elephants, large lion prides, and diverse wildlife.

Additional stays:
Savuti Lodge: Crocodile Lodge (Maun) — ideal pre- or post-safari base, located next to a seasonal river (crocodile sightings not guaranteed)

Can I customise my Botswana safari itinerary?

Yes — you can mix and match lodges. We recommend 2–3 nights per lodge for a more relaxed pace and the best chance of exceptional sightings.

Can I extend my stay?

Yes — add nights before or after your itinerary. We also book Crocodile Lodge in Maun and can arrange accommodation in Kasane.

Which airports should I use for my Botswana safari?

Maun International Airport (MUB) — gateway to the Okavango Delta & Kalahari.
Kasane International Airport (BBK) — ideal for Chobe National Park.

Do you arrange internal flights in Botswana?

Yes — we handle all lodge flights. We do not arrange self-drive, as it’s only suitable for advanced 4x4 drivers booking directly with specialist companies.

How much does a Botswana safari cost?

Prices start from US $380 per person per night all-inclusive (depending on lodge, season, and itinerary). We’ll provide a customised quote based on your travel dates and preferences.

When is the best time to visit Botswana, and how does pricing change?

Green Season (Nov–Mar): Most affordable rates; lush scenery, excellent birding, and newborn wildlife.

Shoulder Season (Apr–May, Sep–Oct): Mid-range rates; transitional weather with strong game viewing.

Dry Season (Jun–Aug): Peak rates; clear skies, mild temperatures, and concentrated wildlife sightings.
